200th ANNIVERSARY

ATTEMPT TO PROHIBIT SLAVE TRADE AND ABOLISH SLAVERY IN THE SPANISH EMPIRE
In 1811 a deputy in the Cortes (the Imperial legislature) from Mexico (then part of the Spanish Empire) attempts to secure passage of legislation abolishing the slave trade and slavery throughout the Spanish Empire.  He was unsuccessful.  It would be another 75 years before slavery is abolished in the Spanish colony of Cuba.

of John Brown.  He had seized the federal armory and arsenal  at Harpers Ferry in Virginia 



December 3, 1948:
UN General Assembly approves the Protocol to the International Agreement for the Suppression of the White Slave Trade 1904
 



December 6, 1865:
Completion of ratification of the
13th Amendment (prohibiting slavery) to the US Bill of Rights
 



December 10, 1805:
Birth of William Lloyd Garrison, founder of the original American Anti-Slavery Society
 



December 16, 1975: Historic decision on bonded labor by the Honorable Justice PN Bhagwati,
Chief Justice of the
